This is the first of a series of tips to help you get in touch with your inner artist. I’ve picked them up from books, classrooms, and critiques over the years. They aren’t gospel, but they’ll certainly help.

I'm not that full of hot air. I'm taking my own advice for all of the points I make. For instance, this is the first time that I've publicly shared this little squid character. It's been something that I've sketched and developed for years. Here it is for all the world to see.

#1 Do something scary

I don’t mean jump out of a plane. I mean commit to a project that is well beyond your capabilities. Put yourself out there. Challenge yourself to perform more/better than you know you can. This will force you to grow and develop. Learning won’t happen by itself.
