New Bokeh 2 Tutorial Videos
Our tutorial guy, Jimmy Beech, made a video that shows how to do the toy model effect, but it's really about more than that. Jimmy shows both Bokeh and Exposure working together and demonstrates how they can work as smart filters for easy non-destructive editing. The idea behind non-destructive editing is that you can easily tweak an effect after it is applied. It makes experimentation much easier.
This is just the latest of the Bokeh 2 videos. I highly recommend them for seeing what Bokeh 2 is all about and for learning how to get the most out of it.
Hot off the presses, Jeff Revell just posted a video tour of Bokeh 2 on his PhotoWalk Pro blog. It's a great exploration of the major Bokeh features!
A Peek Inside Alien Skin Software
I recently did an interview at the Signal vs. Noise blog for 37signals. Take a look if you'd like to learn more about our history and business philosophy. You can even see a quick video tour of our office.
Exposure 3 and Bokeh 2 in Video
© 2010 Martin Wallgren
Here is another beautiful time lapse movie from Martin Wallgren made with Exposure 3 and Bokeh 2. As you can see from the description under the video, this is a pretty involved process. If there is enough interest then we might make a tutorial on how to use our plug-ins in video. From that link you can find other videos that Martin created with our products. I also recommend checking out his gorgeous photography.
Ben Long on Exposure 3
Ben Long, the highly respected Photoshop instructor and author, wrote a terrific review of Exposure 3 on CreativePro.com. I was pleased to see that he liked the new aged looks. He said, "Exposure's grain, dust, and scratch controls create incredibly realistic results and are great not just for realistic simulation of specific film stocks, but for beating up an image to create texture and atmosphere." And the infrared feature I sweated over got some love too. Ben said, "IR sim can sometimes look like an obvious hack, but Alien Skin's IR algorithms are realistic. The ability to control the amount of halation (blooming) around highlights is really cool."
Status of 64-bit Updates
We underestimated the urgency of making our products compatible with 64-bit Photoshop CS5. We are working hard to speed up the process now! Exposure 3 and Bokeh 2 are now 64-bit. The 64-bit updates for our other products will be ready before the end of the year. I will give a more specific date when some technical hurdles are behind us. I apologize for the wait and will let you know as soon as the updates are ready.
