Alien Skin News: June 2009

Chris Pirillo Loves Us

Chris Pirillo, the most caffeinated writer at CNET, made a great video complimenting Snap Art and Alien Skin Software. The video is worth seeing just for the bongo playing on the beautiful canvas print that APC made for him.

New Snap Art Tutorials

Taran Morgan documented a low budget technique for creating post modern line art using a toy model. The first half of the project is about lighting and the physical setup. The second half uses Photoshop, Snap Art, and Exposure to achieve various comic book looks.

Josh Carter created a Snap Art case study, a tutorial combining pencil sketch and watercolor, and another one on the use of focus regions. I’m a fan of combining different Snap Art filters like Josh does in that first tutorial.

American Photo Editor’s Choice Award

American Photo Editor's Choice logoWe were proud to learn that Blow Up 2 won an Editor’s Choice Award from American Photo magazine. They said, “This Photoshop plug-in became our resizing tool of choice after we used it to up-res a 12-megapixel D-SLR file for a 17x22 inch fine-art inkjet print.”

Reviews Everywhere

Ron Martinsen writes detailed articles on photography products in his blog. He lavishes praise on Blow Up 2 in a recent entry. Some choice quotes are, "I can say, without reservation, that I highly recommend this product as the best resizing tool on the market that I have seen to date!" and "Alien Skin claims it can upsize to 400% which is hard to believe, but I tried it and sure enough the results are amazing."

Betsy Finn wrote the best illustrated review of Bokeh yet in Professional Photographer magazine. She includes photos that really make it clear what Bokeh does and why it is so much better than Photoshop’s built-in filters. Betsy sums it up with, "Based on my evaluation of Bokeh, I can say, I’m officially impressed."

Howard Millard wrote a long review of Image Doctor 2 in Shutterbug magazine. He goes into detail with pictures and screen shots to show how he used Image Doctor to clean up various photos.

APC 20% Deal Almost Gone

APC LogoYou still have until the end of June to use promo code ALIENSKIN0905 for 20% off of orders at the APC web site. I can vouch for their visual beauty, but I do not condone using these prints as bongo drums like Chris Pirillo does.

leopard
Here is a shot I took in South Africa with my new Canon G10. Itís nice to get high quality pictures from a camera that fits in a jacket pocket. This leopard is blind in one eye.
