bio
Jim White is our resident in-house pro photographer. He is in charge of our tech support, as well as working in sales, and with our programmers in product development. Jim also creates and produces our product video tutorials. Jim teaches photography and printing workshops with Tony Sweet as well as teaching online classes at BetterPhoto.com. Jim and Tony are currently finishing a book for Focal Press on the Nikon Digital SLR cameras.

This image was chosen for the Portraits of Raleigh exhibit at the City museum. It’s a juxtasposition of the old and new Raleigh. I used Exposure to convert the old Cooper’s BBQ building to Black & White. I then made a careful selection of the text, converted it to B&W and lowered the opacity of the layer to 40% to bring back some color to the text. I then made a careful selection of the sky, which was cloudless and a stark blue, and used the Little Fluffy Clouds filter in Xenofex 2 to help the sky.
It was a good shot to start with but these are little subtle touches that really made it stand out.
